Faith Meets Affirmation: Starting Each Day with God’s Promises and Positive Words

There’s poetry in morning declarations, rhythm in repeated hope. When I say. “Something cool will happen today” alongside verses about God’s goodness, I’m not just speaking words—I’m planting seeds of faith in the soil of a new day. Watch how Scripture and science create a symphony of expectant joy.

When God Uses a Podcast to Teach You Something New

Anyone who knows me well knows I love listening to podcasts, and The Mel Robbins Show is one of my favorites. Recently, I listened to her podcast episode, “8 Things to Tell Yourself Every Morning” from The Mel Robbins Show (Robbins, 2025), where she shares how positive self-talk is a powerful way to reprogram the mind for success and resilience. As someone who deeply appreciates personal development and growth, I found her insights both powerful and timely, especially since I’ve walked through challenging seasons over the past two years. I know God often uses unexpected resources—like Mel’s podcast—to encourage and equip me, and I suspect many of you have experienced this too. I felt drawn to explore how some of her practical mantras align beautifully with how God’s Word can encourage us and help us see ourselves as He does with clarity and purpose.

When Faith Meets Science

On this podcast, Mel uses practical affirmations (with the help of researchers and experts that she’s had on her podcast) to literally help rewire our brains for success. I love it!  But as I listened, I was thinking about how much more powerful it could be when we anchor these daily declarations to what God says about us. The bible is full of verses like Philippians 4:8 that tell us to focus on what’s true, noble, and praiseworthy, and it turns out the science backs this up beautifully. Research shows that through repetition and meditation, affirmations actually help rewire our thought patterns, reinforcing positive mental and spiritual growth.

In this post, I want to share two of Mel’s affirmations paired with biblical promises that remind us who we are in Christ. Because honestly? When we start believing what God says about us, it doesn’t just renew our minds; it will transform our entire day. Actually, it will transform our whole lives!

Mantra #1: This Is Going to Be a Great Day

Inspirational graphic with Bible verse Psalm 118:24 about rejoicing in the day the Lord has made
Every morning is a fresh start wrapped in God’s grace. How will you choose to rejoice today?

The first mantra that really resonated with me is: “Today is going to be a great day.” Mel encourages her listeners to declare this simple phrase first thing each morning, and there’s real science behind it. It’s called neuroplasticity, that is, our brain’s remarkable ability to rewire itself based on what we repeatedly hear and say. Since listening to Mel’s podcast, I’ve actually started doing this, and I’ve noticed it shifts the tone of everything that follows. It’s an intentional act of hope, but for me, it’s also become my daily faith declaration.

I immediately thought about Psalm 118:24: “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” There’s something transformative about connecting positive self-talk with God’s truth. This verse tells us that every morning is a gift, made special by God himself, and rejoicing in it is more than optimism—it’s an act of gratitude and trust. Every day, I get to choose to celebrate another chance to live and serve, even when the path ahead is unclear.

I’ve been pairing Mel’s affirmation with this promise from Psalm 118:24. Every morning, I say both: “Today is going to be a great day” and “This is the day the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.” But here’s where it gets really fun—I find myself singing that happy little song from my childhood: 🎶 “This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made. I will rejoice, I will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it…” 🎶 If you know the tune, you know it’s impossible not to smile.

I’ve read that pairing positive words with uplifting music can boost your mood and set your mind on a positive note for the rest of your day. I believe combining Mel’s mantra with God’s Word and that cheerful song doesn’t just set me up to have a great day—it prepares me to spread that joy to others along the way. And it can do the same thing for you!

Mantra #2: Something Cool Is Going to Happen Today

Mel’s second mantra, “Something cool is going to happen for me today,” really caught my attention, too. It’s an invitation to walk into each day with expectant hope and confidence. That is so beautiful! Now, I need to be vulnerable here for a moment, since I’ve been unemployed for the last year, money has become tight, and I’ve had to file for bankruptcy. Although I shared this here before, I was thinking that I shouldn’t be sharing that again, but I think it’s so important for us to share what we’re going through. Like I often say, being vulnerable builds bridges and allows for authentic connections. We women over 50 need to do that more as we get older.

Real connection happens when we have the courage to share our real stories. Your vulnerability might be exactly what another woman needs to hear today.

Given that money has been tight lately, I’ve been struggling to see how all the absolutely necessary bills will get paid each month. But when I tell you that the Lord makes it happen, He does! It’s because I believe Him and His promises. I anticipate an unexpected check in the mail or a monetary gift to make ends meet. As believers, we know that God’s goodness isn’t just possible, it’s promised. This hope lives in verses like “Therefore the Lord waits [expectantly] and longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you…” (Isaiah 30:18), “Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6), and the powerful assurance that “God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose” (Romans 8:28).

So now I pair Mel’s second mantra, “Something cool is going to happen for me today,” with those three powerful promises from God’s Word. Every morning, I declare that today will be great and expect God’s goodness to show up in unexpected ways. These verses remind me that God’s heart is for us to receive His goodness daily, that His mercy pursues us relentlessly, and that even when life’s paths seem uncertain, God is working behind the scenes, crafting good for our lives. That is incredible! Our God is awesome!

I encourage you to pair mantras 1 and 2 together, then wait for God to show you just how great He is. Expect a miracle.

When you align your daily declarations with God’s eternal promises, miracles become your expectation, not your exception.

I love how these practical tools align with the spiritual truths I hold on to. Positive self-talk, when rooted in God’s Word, becomes a foundation for faith, hope, and resilience, especially for those days when everything feels hard.

Walking It Out Together

Why don’t you try this for yourself? Start tomorrow morning with both “Today is going to be a great day” and “This is the day the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Then add “Something cool is going to happen for me today” alongside one (or all 3) of those verses of promises of God’s goodness I shared. See how it shifts not just your mindset, but your faith expectancy. When you align your daily affirmations with God’s eternal promises, you’re not just hoping for a better day; you will position yourself to receive all the good He has planned for you. Having faith is required, though. God can not lie. (Hebrews 6:18) Hope in His promises.

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What negative thoughts or worries usually fill your mind first thing in the morning, and how might replacing them with these faith-based affirmations change your day?
  • Which of these Scripture promises speaks most to your current season? Write it down and place it somewhere you’ll see it first thing tomorrow.
  • How can you help another woman in your life embrace this kind of expectant faith?

I’d love to hear how this impacts your mornings! Share your experience in the comments or connect with me on social media. And if you haven’t listened to Mel’s original episode yet, I highly recommend checking out ‘8 Things to Tell Yourself Every Morning’ on The Mel Robbins Show. Her research-backed insights are worth listening to, and you might find other mantras that speak to your heart, too.

Remember, we’re walking this faith journey together—be brave enough to pursue your dreams, faithful enough to trust the process, and kind enough to help another woman along the way.

Life is a faith journey. Walk boldly.
